Walk 3 - White Coomb from Carrifran

16.9k (10.5 miles) with approx. 1042m (3404 ft) climb; Approx. 6 hours

This is a big walk for those with the fitness & stamina to complete a long day in the hills. The route is by bus to Carrifran where we ascend via the ridge to Carrifran Gans and onto Coombe Craig and the summit of White Coombe, then descend to Lochcraig Head and on to Hartfell Summit.

From Hartfell the route follows that of walk 2 for 2 miles back to Annan Water hall for well earned refreshments including a barbecue.

Local Notes:

""Carrifran, a magnificent valley in the Moffat Hills is part of an ecological restoration, the Wildwood project is recreating a wild and wooded land, restoring the countryside to its ancient state of six thousand years ago. It is intended to be a haven for a rich array of native Scottish plants and animals excluded for centuries from these hills."

Walk description: A long and fairly demanding walk, some sections slightly boggy. However, you can be assured that if the weather is kind the views on this walk will make it well worth the energy required for it. Stout boots should be worn.

Parking: Moffat Town Centre car parks

Register: Moffat Mountain Rescue Post at The Holm at 9 am for 9.30 am start.
