Recruitment

After an initial approach and application individuals are invited to attend an interview before the team leader, deputy leader, training officer and secretary. Successful completion of this interview establishes the applicant as a probationary team member. Recruits then undertake one-year probation, normally commencing in the April or October following the interview. During this time they are assessed for mountaineering competence and the acquisition of specific mountain rescue skills.

At the end of the one year new members may have their name added to the callout list and at that point they become fully fledged members of the team. Due to the frequency of training and the high standards set by the Team many potential recruits fall by the wayside during the probationary period.

The discretion of the Team management operates in all circumstances resulting in recruits being added to the call out list prior to completion of the probationary period if previous pre-MRT experience is clearly demonstrated to a very high standard. Probationers may also be called out before they are on the call out list but this will very much depend on the nature of the incident.
