Callout to injured young walker on Criffel
Thu, 16th Oct 2025At 12:42 on Thursday 16th October Moffat Mountain Rescue Team were asked for their assistance in the rescue of an injured young walker on Criffel, near New Abbey.
10 team members responded to the callout alongside the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS).
Once team members arrived at the casualty’s location they were able to assess them and determine a stretcher would be needed to extract them safely due to a lower leg injury. The team were able to provide pain relief and splint the affected limb before packaging them into a cas bag and stretcher. A back rope was then used to support the stretcher as they were carried from the hillside. The casualty’s family were also walked safely off the hill.
The casualty was then transferred into our own VW ambulance before being taken down to the main car park and transferred into a SAS vehicle. Here the SAS crew were able to continue ongoing care and assessment and convey them to hospital.
We wish them all the best in their recovery.
