Callout to Injured walker on Southern Upland Way
Sun, 26th Oct 2025At 12:01 on Saturday 25th October Police Scotland asked for the assistance of Moffat MRT in the rescue of an injured walked on the Southern Upland Way.
The walker was well equipped but had fallen and sustained a suspected broken ankle on the path between Wanlockhead and Beattock.
7 members of Moffat MRT responded to the callout, alongside 5 members of Police Scotland MRT West. Together the teams were able to locate the casualty and assess their condition.
Pain relief was provided and the injury was splinted before the casualty was packaged into a cas bag and stretcher. They were then carried from the hillside in a stretcher with a wheel attachment to a waiting SAS vehicle and crew. From here the ambulance service were able to carry out further assessment and treatment before conveying them to hospital.
