Callout to injured paraglider near Tinto Hill
Fri, 16th Jan 2026At 15:28 on Thursday 15th January 2026, Moffat MRT were asked by Police Scotland to assist in the rescue of a crashed paraglider on Green Hill near Tinto hill in Lanarkshire.
11 team members responded to the callout, alongside Police Scotland MRT (West), Police Scotland, the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) and HM Coastguard Helicopter R199.
With one member of Moffat MRT, one member of Police Scotland MRT and the SAS on site first, they ascended the hill where they were met by the Winch Paramedic from R199.
Together they worked to assess the casualty’s injuries, provide pain relief and package them into a stretcher safely.
The rest of the team gathered at the base of the hill preparing equipment for a stretcher carry off if it was required.
The paraglider was then winched into the helicopter, with MRT supporting the lift by managing the Hi-line. They were then taken on to a major trauma centre hospital for further assessment and treatment.
We wish them all the best in their recovery.
