Callout to Injured Walker at Waterloo Monument Dumfries

Wed, 17th Jun 2026

The team was called out today at 17:48 hrs to assist a walker who had injured their ankle while walking at the Waterloo Monument south of Dumfries. They were unable to weight bear and required rescue.

12 members of Moffat Mountain Rescue Team responded, along with 4 members of the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS). One local team member who is a Remote Rescue Medical Technician (RRMT) was on scene early to provide a situation update to organise team resources. The team worked with the SAS crew to assess the ankle as possibly broken, provide strong pain relief, then stabilise and treat the casualty’s injury. The other team members then provided evacuation in the team’s stretcher to our VW ambulance for transport to the SAS RV point to complete the handover.

We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.
