Busy spell for MMRT – 3 incidents in a week

It’s been a busy spell for the team, with three call‑outs in the last seven days across our region. Every incident is different, but our commitment to being professional, responsive and driven by service never wavers.

Incident 1 – 31st July – Search for High‑Risk Missing Person, Mouswald

At 02:21, we were alerted by Police Scotland to assist in the search for a high‑risk missing person in the Mouswald area near Dumfries.
6 team members responded initially, with a further 5 joining later in the morning.

A wide multi‑agency response was deployed, including:

• SARAA drones from Galloway MRT
• Galloway MRT team members and a GMRT search dog
• Police Scotland officers and a police search dog
• HM Coastguard helicopter Rescue 199
• Police Scotland MRT

The missing person was located safe and well in the late morning. We send our warmest wishes to her and her family.

Incident 2 – 2nd August – Rescue of Crashed Paraglider, Criffel

At 13:44, Police Scotland requested our assistance following reports of a crashed paraglider on Criffel.
7 team members attended and were able to reach the casualty, who was fortunately uninjured. The team assisted in recovering the paraglider’s equipment from the hillside.

Incident 3 – 5 August – Search and Rescue for Missing Walkers, Wanlockhead

At 19:32, we were asked to help locate a group of missing walkers near Wanlockhead.
A significant response followed over concerned for the group, with 16 MMRT members deploying alongside Police Scotland MRT.

HM Coastguard helicopter Rescue 897 was instrumental in pinpointing the group’s location in poor weather conditions. The weather prevented the helicopter rescuing the walkers directly – MRT Teams were able to reach them, carry out welfare checks, and extract them safely from the hillside.
