Join the Team
Moffat MRT are excited to announce we are having an Open day on the 18th October 2026! If you are interested in joining the team, please come along and visit us. We will open out the base so you can get information on how the team works, see our equipment, and most importantly, be able to speak to team members to get an idea of what it is to be a part of our team! General information is provided below the poster.

General information:
If you are interested in joining the team, please take some time to browse this site and our Facebook/Instagram pages to gain a better understanding of the team and what we do, its history, where we are, our events and callouts (not all callouts are published due to their sensitive nature). The website contains significant events; our social media sites keep you updated with current news, projects and campaigns, where you can meet the team and current outdoor awareness information.
Probationers may be taken in annually or more frequently depending on team membership. Probationer training is offered to all new members, and once the initial 4 months are completed then probationers are also included in regular team training for another 8 months before being reviewed to be confirmed a full member and added to the call-out list. Probationers are expected to have a good understanding of personal hill skills and outdoor safety before joining, with probationer training through our induction programme adding skills required for search and rescue operations. This involves specific training in welfare, values, standards and procedures as well as practical skills such as rope rigging, vehicles, communications, first aid and search techniques. A minimum of 80% attendance is required across the year at twice-monthly training sessions (an evening and a weekend full-day per month as with team training).
Probationers need to complete an online application form for consideration. If applying, you need to consider what you can bring to the team, what your availability for callouts / training / fundraising / awareness events could be, your current hill or mountain skill level, local area knowledge and fitness. From a practical perspective, you should reside locally to be able to respond to callouts in the team’s area. You should have a commitment to the team’s values of Innovation, Inclusion, Compassion and Excellence. Within the team, it is important to have good interpersonal and team working skills and be able to show compassion to casualties, their families and other team members. The personal resilience to remain calm in pressured situations is required.

Extensive experience in all hill skills is not required – we will build on your current level, with our training team’s review of appropriateness for acceptance into the team upon application and through the training process. There is the opportunity once a full team member to pursue higher specialist training (for example remote rescue medical care, rope rescue and/or search / incident management).
A new Non-Operational Support role is being considered for applicants who could contribute to team activity such as supporting events, fundraising, administration, governance, communications / social media, logistics, volunteer welfare support, or technical / IT skills (or others if you have ideas!). Availability to help in these roles (especially if you have experience in these areas) to support the operational team membership is valued by the team as a whole, please contact us as with prospective probationary operational members below.
If you are interested in joining the team, please contact our Secretary, either directly or through the website on our Contact Us page. An application form/link will be sent out, applications reviewed upon return, and interviews for suitable applicants offered.
