Joint helicopter and MRT rescue on Criffel

Wed, 8th Jul 2020

At 1400 on 8 July 2020 Dumfries Galloway Police Division requested the assistance of Moffat Mountain Rescue Team to assist Scottish Ambulance Service with the rescue of a walker on Criffel, near Dumfries.

11 team members responded and made their way to the casualty site with first aid equipment and a stretcher. Rescue 199, a Search and Rescue Helicopter from Prestwick also responded and arrived on scene at the same time as team members.

The team and the helicopter winchman treated the casualty and the scene and prepared the casualty for winching into the helicopter.

The walker had suffered a suspected broken ankle near the summit of the hill. The team then escorted the casualty’s husband from the hill and stood down, cleaning all the team equipment in preparation for next time it may be required.
