Rescue of Missing Walker on Hogmanay

Sun, 31st Dec 2023

At 15:24 on New Year’s Eve 2023 Moffat Mountain Rescue were asked by Police Scotland to assist in the search and rescue of a missing walker and their dog who had become disorientated in the Lowther Hills as it was getting dark.

7 team members responded alongside the team Landrover to the aid of the missing walker.
Using Phone Find technology Police Scotland were able to identify the missing party’s location to which Moffat MRT then responded.

Moffat MRT were able to swiftly locate the walker and their dog and bring them back to Moffat where Police Scotland facilitated their safe onwards journey.

The walker correctly identified the need to contact help in this situation which may have saved them from a very cold night lost on the hills!

The quickest way to get help on the hills if you need it is to dial 999, ask first for POLICE, then MOUNTAIN RESCUE.
